Much like Rameses is leaning on this basketball, Carolina has a long basketball legacy to lean on, even beyond varsity hoops. Despite JV programs disappearing nationwide after freshmen gained NCAA eligibility, Dean Smith insisted UNC maintain a men's JV team, which exists to this day. Non-varsity students rep Tar Heels basketball against DII, junior college and prep school opponents, under the tutelage of UNC assistant coaches. Roy Williams, Jerod Haase and current varsity head coach Hubert Davis all coached the JV team at one point in their illustrious careers.
